Believing that God is a God of justice, the Moravian Church began to look for ways to serve through Christian solidarity in Palestine. In 1867, the church began its mission of serving lepers at the Jesushilfe hospital in Jerusalem. Later, this ministry moved its facilities to Star Mountain near the Palestinian city of Ramallah.
Since 1980, Star Mountain has focused on serving people with special needs, especially children with mental disabilities. Gradually a boarding facility, a school specializing in special education, and departments of agricultural training and community works were established.
